HS2’s map of the sewer works and maps of the nature reserve

I’m uploading here a map which HS2’s community engagement team are currently showing to the public illustrating the scope of the sewer works.

The second image below it is a photograph of the LBHF aerial “map” displayed at the Scrubs, showing the extent of the Wormwood Scrubs nature reserve.

Click on the button below to open and download a pdf showing detail of the nature reserves and species maps issued by LBHF.

When looking at the HS2 diagram, it’s important to grasp that:

  • the areas in yellow will be completely devastated by digging, machinery, supply depots etc.

  • It can be seen that the nature reserve is due to be sliced up as well as reduced to a narrow strip.

  • The long diagonal yellow line - the Braybrook Street access road - cuts off part of the wildlife habitat from the rest of the Scrubs. HS2 say that they will move species by “manipulating their habitat” (i.e. driving them out).

  • The green dots are meant to indicate where trees will be felled or “taken up” (i.e. lower branches lopped). The dots in no way represent individual trees to be felled. In particular the single green dot in the middle of the long works area would give a more representative image by several lines of closely placed green dots.

  • There are as yet no detailed explanations or drawings forthcoming from HS2 as to which trees are to be felled or lopped.

  • There is no guarantee that they will be replaced with mature specimens - HS2 say this is the responsibility of the council (LBHF).
