Activity day 22 May and the growth of the Friends of the Scrubs

The Activity Day (morning, really) on 22 May was a huge success. Dozens of Friends gathered at dawn to look out for birds, butterflies and to learn about regenerating the meadow from our resident experts: birder Barbara Crowther; Malcolm Hull from Big City Butterflies; and Kate McVay from IdVerde.

And almost as important - nearly 100 people signed up to be officially Friends of the Scrubs, while we engaged with literally hundreds more.

The first arrivals of the group of 20 + individuals of all ages who joined Malcolm Hull on his butterfly walk

Wormwood Scrubs at 4.30am

The early birds assembled at the best time for birdwatching - dawn. And were well rewarded with greenfinches, song thrushes, linnets, common white throats and greater spotted woodpeckers (and a nest) and flocks of house sparrows
